We celebrate the First Sunday of Lent this weekend. Bishop Finn has asked all priests and pastoral administrators to read a letter he has written concerning his pastoral letter for the Diocese. Bishop Finn is very concerned about the growing rate of pornography and its affects on people and families. In this week’s Catholic Key his entire pastoral letter is printed. Also with this bulletin are the Rice Bowls. Rice Bowls are used to help people to do almsgiving during the season of Lent. If you have a more simple meal than you would have before Lent, put the extra change or money into the Rice Bowl. The money from the Rice Bowl is divided up with 25% staying right here in the diocese, 25% stays in the United States, and the other 50% is given to charities throughout the world. This is an important way to feed hungry people all over. Please do take home a rice bowl and information which comes with it. This weekend those who will be entering the Church at Easter time are going to the Rite of Election. This Rite allows the Bishop of the Diocese to welcome them into the final preparation for joining the Church at Easter time. This is an exciting period as those who have been studying about coming into the Catholic Church are now finishing their experience. Kim and I both will be gone on Thursday, March 1, 2007 for a Diocesan workshop on finances and what we are suppose to be doing. I would ask you to know this so that if you call the parish office you will not receive any response except for the answering machine. During the Season of Lent let us all remember the virtues of prayer, fasting and giving alms. May God bless you. --Fr. Tom |
