Fr. Tom's Tomes July 10, 2005

It is a custom of mine to write a column for the bulletin each week I am here. as I mentioned in my homily last week the bulletin is my way of communicating with the people of the parish. I believe it is very important for each parishioner to read the bulletin every week so that we all know what is happening at St. Columban. at times my column may be longer than others. I am excited about being here at St. Columban. There is a lot of information I will learn in the next six to twelve months. As I begin my time here at St. Columban I need to get to know the people of the parish and the important things about the parish. The best way I get to know your name is by your presence here at Mass and by helping out around the parish. It is by being together I will get to know your name. I do ask that as I come upon you to give me your name so that I can begin to call you by name when I see you.

Last fall I was asked to celebrate a Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass for a couple from Osceola, so I will be in Springfield this Saturday, but will return for Sunday Masses. Fr. Don Helfrey will celebrate Saturday evening Mass.

St. Columban is blessed to have so many different ministries such as Bishop Hogan School, Parish CCD, Legion of Mary, Altar Society, Blue Army, Youth, Knights of Columbus and so many more ministries. During these first few weeks I am here I hope to learn more about these and other ministries of the parish. In my experience I believe we all need to work together to build the parish faith community. It is through each one of us giving or our time and talent so the parish may continue to grow and flourish.

God Bless you, Fr. Tom.
