Fr.
Tom's Tomes August 20, 2006
Bishop Hogan School got off to a great start this past Wednesday. Teachers and students began the year with half days this past week and will begin with full days starting Monday, August 21, 2006. Grades 3 through 8 still have a few openings if you would like for your children to attend Bishop Hogan school. I would encourage all parents of children who will be attending the CCD program this year to please register your child or children this week. We are planning on starting CCD earlier this year than last year. The first night of classes will be Wednesday, September 13, 2006. Classes will be from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Registration sheets for CCD are in the back of the Church. Please help us out by filling out the registration sheets and turning them in this week. All children of the parish should be in religious education classes. If your child or children are not attending Bishop Hogan School it is important for them to be attending St. Columban’s CCD program. For more information about CCD please call Fr. Tom at 646-0190. As another school year begins the St. Columban’s Fall Festival is right around the corner. This year the Fall Festival will be the weekend of September 16 and 17. A committee of dedicated parishioners have already been working months on our Fall Festival for this year. The committee wants to make it a parish and community wide celebration. We would like for you to keep open this weekend as we will be expanding the activities to encourage more participation by adults and children. Saturday evening will include activities for young and old alike. Sunday we will have activities as we have in the past. It is the hope of the committee to make the weekend a time of gathering and celebrating together. Plan now to join us. On Thursday evening, August 31, 2006 Paula Moss from the Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph is going to be at St. Columban to talk about stewardship. I am inviting all who have volunteered to be on the parish council, school council, school PTO and school development committee to come and join in this evening. I would also like to invite any parishioner who is interested in learning more about stewardship to come to this presentation. Stewardship is a way of life. Stewardship is being aware of all of God’s blessings in our lives and our need to return to God for what he has blessed us. If you are interested in attending this meeting it will begin at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria and will last about 2 hours. If you would like to attend please call Kim at the parish office and let her know you are coming so we can be prepared for your coming. God bless you and have a good week. |
