I want to welcome our visiting Missionary Priest this weekend. He will be celebrating all Masses and taking a special collection to help the missionaries of his order in spreading the Word of God. I would invite all of you to be generous to the second collection this weekend. Labor Day is a week from Monday. Labor Day is Monday, September 4, 2006 and Mass that morning will be at 9:00 am. Labor Day acts like the end of the summer season when most people return to their Fall and Winter schedule. I would invite all parishioners to come and join in prayer at Mass on Labor Day at 9:00 am. St. Columban’s Fall Festival is the weekend of September 16 and 17. You may remember me giving a brief description of our financial picture a few weeks ago. We have been able to reduce our deficit because of the generosity of so many people. The Fall Festival is a way of raising funds to operate the ministries of our parish. All the ministries are the responsibility of all parishioners. I would invite you first to pray for good weather for the Fall Festival. Secondly to come and support the different activities of the Fall Festival. I would also invite you to ask others to come and be with us. Raffle tickets will be out soon and this is a way to make money for our parish. Please help sell them and promote the raffle. It is very important to have a good fund raising event to help us in reducing our debt. This year the committee has also decided to add a dinner, dance and activities on Saturday evening. Some of the activities on Saturday will be for the whole family and others are for adults. Sunday activities are for the entire family. Please think about joining us for all these activities and to have an enjoyable weekend. I think adding the activities on Saturday evening will make the weekend even better. If you are called to help out please do so. If you are not called please come and support the efforts of fellow parishioners. Parents who have children who will be attending CCD are asked to turn in their registration forms this week. Books will be ordered and we have to plan for the number of children who will be attending. So far we have three families who have registered their children.
