Fr. Tom's Tomes September 17, 2006

The Fall Festival is here. I want to thank the planning committee for all of their hard work to organize the Festival for this year. I know they started very early in planning for this year’s festivities. I know they have tried very hard to involve new faces this year in order to let all parishioners know we need all of your help. If you were not called and asked to do something and will have time I do know we still need a lot of help in cleaning up after the Festival at 4:00 pm on Sunday. It is my theory that many hands make for light work. I know the more help we get to clean up the better it is for all.

I want to invite all who are going to the 5:30 pm Mass to come for supper and the dance after supper this Saturday evening. I am excited to see the addition of the dance with the Fall Festival. I think a parish at times does need to have events to bring parishioners together to enjoy the friendship and company of one another. It is important to build community with other parishioners. Often we go to Mass and know the people who come to that Mass but may not know others. The event of the supper and dance this Saturday evening I believe helps us to know one another and provides the opportunity to be with each other. Please know we are in need of cakes for the cake walk and the ice cream and cake booth. If you were not called to bake a cake please do so and bring it to the school library on Sunday. Cakes will always be able to be used. I understand they would also like for you to put on the cake what type it is. I told the planning committee this past Monday evening at their meeting I would be glad to be the appointed person to cut into the cake and taste it to see what kind of cake it was but my idea did not go over too well. At least I tried!

Let us all pray for good weather for the Fall Festival. I am hoping the rain holds off until after the Festival. I know last year at the end of the Festival as the final clean up was taking place it did begin to rain. I believe in the power of prayer and God is very much watching over our parish and all we do. I am more familiar with the parish and what happens at the Fall Festival. I thought last year’s was a great Festival and I am hoping for a great one this year. I want to thank all who help in any way with the Festival. I know many, many parishioners work in some way on the Festival and it is a great way to bring the entire parish together. There are many people who do things for the Fall Festival behind the scenes and your work and time are greatly appreciated by me. Without your time and effort we could not have a day to be enjoyed not only by our parishioners but also by the whole community. I see the many wonderful things which happen and it is because of what each and every one of those who help do.

By the way I am offering to have my face painted again this year. They only made 400 tickets to be sold but I would like to have people buy all of them so they will have to make more tickets. Wouldn’t you like the opportunity to paint the face of the pastor? Just think, this might be the only time in your life you will have the chance to express your painting abilities on the face of the pastor.

Please buy your tickets and I might even be able to get a picture of this in the bulletin for next week. I hope to see you at the Festival.

God bless you this week.
