CONGRATULATIONS TO FATHER SPEICHINGER OR NOW I SHOULD SAY MONSIGNOR SPEICHINGER. Msgr. Speichinger has served our diocese faithfully and it is a great honor. I am sure we all have been touched by his warmth and generosity. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Fr. Ray to St. Columban this weekend. I would ask you to listen to him and to respond generously to those who are hungry. In his ministry Jesus reached out many times to feed the hungry. It is our responsibility to reach out to those who are hungry. We all have an ability to take from what we have to give to those who do not have. We also have the responsibility to encourage state and national leaders to be concerned about all who are hungry. Fr. Ray used to be the chaplain at Whiteman Air Force Base. He is a very generous priest because he continues to help out where he is needed. He has touched many, many lives and we thank him for being with us this weekend. Fr. Bob Cameron will be at St. Columban’s next weekend. I should be back on Thursday, October 19, 2006. I want to invite all parishioners who have not taken part in the Protecting All God’s Children to attend the training session on Thursday evening, October 26, 2006. This training session teaches adults who work with youth to identify warning signs of possible situations in which a child might be groomed to be a victim of child abuse. Today in the Catholic Church we continue to hear of victim stories of being abuse by clergy and others. I encourage all who have not had this training and who have children, grandchildren or who work with children to take part in this training. If you know someone who is not of the Catholic Faith and would be interested in attending they are invited to do so. This training is for all. I want to ask all parents of children attending religious education, CCD, and all volunteers in the CCD program who have not taken this training to make a special effort to be present for this session on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the cafeteria of the school building. The Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph is focusing upon the CCD programs and is really trying to get all parents of children attending CCD to attend the training. This year in the CCD program we will be doing some training on safety issues. All children will be able to participate if their parents give us their permission for their children to attend. More information will be coming out about this. The Fall Festival committee met this past week and reviewed our past Fall Festival. They have begun working on next years Fall Festival. It will be an Octoberfest theme. We also are moving the date of the Fall Festival to the first weekend in October. Please mark your calendars now for next year’s Fall Festival which will be October 6 and 7th, 2007. We would like for all of our parishioners to be able to take part in this great weekend. Also mark your calendars for the next Bishop Hogan Memorial School Dinner Auction. The dinner auction will be Saturday, April 14, 2007. We are beginning to work on the dinner auction and if you have a item you would like to donate please call the school office at 646-0705. I would like to remind you we need to have new items or those which are considered antiques or of value. The dinner auction items are not used items because we need to raise over $70,000 for the school’s budget. Thank you and have a blessed week. |
