Fr. Tom's Tomes November 12, 2006

Thank you to all who worked so very hard on Amendment 2. As we can tell by the numbers of votes cast this amendment passed by a very small number of votes. We need to continue to pray so all people may have the understanding that life begins at the moment of conception. We live in a time of rationalization. It is easy at times to rationalize our thinking so that our actions do not become sins. Scriptures and teaching of the Church should lead our moral decision making. We all must continue to learn from the Scriptures and teachings of the Church to form our conscience.

Last Saturday evening I forgot to start our turkey give away at the Masses for the first three weekends of November. To make up for this mistake of mine we will draw two names from those present this weekend at Mass to receive a turkey. Our winners from last week were Mary Burnett at the 8:00 am Mass and Ralph Wilson at the 10:00 Mass. Congratulations to our winners. Rumors spread very quickly. Evidently there was a group of parishioners talking about if the parish is in financial trouble why would we be giving away turkeys. Sometimes we need to do things to lighten the atmosphere and invite more to come to church. It is ironic because this conversation took place at HyVee. HyVee was and is gracious to donate all the turkeys for us. HyVee does a lot for our parish and school and they are great community supporters.

A reminder HyVee is once again supporting schools in the Chillicothe area by donating 3% of their sales to schools. When you shop at HyVee please bring the cash receipts to the church, school or early learning center and we will collect them. We gather all the receipts and turn them in. For every receipt over $25 excluding gas and pharmacy we receive 3% back. Last school year this amounted to over $2,000. This money was applied to the computer hardware and software which supports the school and parish ministry. Please help us by turning in your receipts so we can continue to improve our school.

Next Saturday, November 18, 2006, is the cookie bazaar, soup luncheon and basket auction sponsored by the Bishop Hogan PTO. This is held after the Holiday Parade in Chillicothe. This is one of the major fund raisers for the PTO and I would encourage all parishioners to support the school through your participation in coming for lunch and buying cookies and bidding on baskets. As the Holiday Parade arrives we know that Christmas is not too far off and you may choose to do some of your Christmas shopping for the hard to find person here. There will be a lot of interesting baskets and school families are gathering their baskets to help out the school.

Thanksgiving is not too far off and I would like to invite all parishioners to come to Mass on Thanksgiving morning at 9:00 am. Thanksgiving is a day set aside to thank God for all the blessings in our lives. To start our day off with going to Mass would be a great way to begin Thanksgiving.
