Fr. Tom's Tomes November 26, 2006

This weekend we celebrate Thanksgiving Weekend. This weekend is a time to remember we need to thank God for the blessings we have received. We are people who are blessed and we need to take time to remember to give thanks for all we have.

This weekend we are taking up a special collection for the Campaign for Human Development. This particular collection goes to help those who are poor and are trying to find ways to remove themselves from poverty. This collection stays within our country and it is an opportunity for us to share our blessings.

Next weekend we begin the Season of Advent. Advent is the beginning of the Church’s Liturgical Year. Advent season is the four Sundays before Christmas and the days in between those Sundays. The focus of Advent is not a time of Christmas parties but a time to prepare for the second coming of Christ. The readings of the last Sundays in the Liturgical Year focus upon the end of time and our preparation for it. As I spoke last weekend at the Masses we need to be prepared for the second coming of Christ.

Last weekend the fifth through eighth graders of Bishop Hogan participated in the Chillicothe Holiday Parade. They won the Grand Marshal award for the parade. The fifth and sixth graders worked hard on their parade float along with Mr. & Mrs. Sturm and Mrs. Thompson to organize their float. This organization was evidenced in their presentation.

On Sunday, December 10, 2006, all Junior High and youth in Senior High Youth are invited to participate in a social event. Grand 6 Movie theater is showing the movie, “The Living Nativity”. All youth who want to attend must call either the parish office at 646-0190 or John and Mary Taylor to let us know. We are going to meet at the Early Learning Center Building in the Senior High Room at 3:15 pm. We are going to see the movie at 4:00 pm The cost of the movie is around $5.00. Each youth will be responsible for the cost of their movie ticket. After the movie there will pizza and pop for the students who go. Following the movie and pizza the confirmation class will meet for their monthly gathering. Again if a student is planning on going they must call to make a reservation.

God bless you and have a blessed week.
